Background knowledge of the breed

This is a dog that you really can not help but like. The breed is very social and willing to adapt to the environment around and people it lives with. The dog is super lively and loves to play, for example, with the family's children. At the same time, it is very accommodating to strangers. However, a male dog of this breed may have some difficulty socializing with other male dogs. The breed is muscular and needs physical activation, so the owner of this breed must be someone who is either active and can take the dog with them or someone who has time to meet the dog's need for physical activity.

The Dutchman Ecduard Korthals did not tell which dog breeds he used to create the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon in the 1800s. Kleiner Münsterländer, Braque Francais, French Griffons and possibly the barbet almost certainly have their share in this excellent breed, which can work in all different types of terrains, but is not fast enough to compete on field trials. Eduard Korthals lived periodically in Germany but carried out most of his work with breeding in France, which is therefore the homeland of the breed.

The breed grows 55-60 cm tall for males and females grows to around 50-55 cm. They weigh 23-37 kg.

The activity level of the breed

The desire to hunt is important for this breed. The dog has a large hunting drive, but it is definitely not as high as the hurting desire of the chicken dogs. The breed is good at working independently but stays close and keeps in touch with its owner or hunter. The dog is very attentive and obedient, as long as you start with obedience training and socialization early on.

Fur care and hygiene

The dog's fur is hard and very coarse, almost like pig brushes. Not curly or like wool, just hard. The undercoat is good, dense and water-repellent. It is a coat that can handle all kinds of weather, but it will still require brushing once in a while, and sometimes a trimming. Especially beards and eyebrows should be brushed daily.

Management of the breed

The breed is very teachable and positive towards training and learning. It is very attached to its owner and wants to cooperate. You can make the raising of the dog much easier if you train kindly, positively and preferably in small sequences with good rewards.
