Background knowledge of the breed

A Poodle is a wonderful and not least intelligent dog breed, which is available in different sizes: both in a very small size, a slightly smaller size, a medium size and a large size. In addition to these different sizes, they are also available in many different coat colors and shades. A Poodle has a historical origin as a hunting dog that is good in water, and this also means that a Poodle is good for agility, dog training, tracking and even as a shepherd dog, if you wish to use the breed for these activities. The Poodle is known to be one of the world's best companion dogs, and it is the versatility and its ability to adapt that do this. The fact is that the breed is loving and good-natured in relation to the whole family, and it is never pale to play with the family's children. Another good quality the Poodle possesses is that it is vigilant without being either barking or repulsive towards strangers and other dogs. A Poodle is therefore suitable for all kinds of people and it can fit in quite unproblematically in different environments. The breed is teachable and suitable for almost any type of dog activity, as mentioned above.

It is believed that the Poodle may have come to France via Germany from Russia and is believed to have originated from very old Water Spaniels. It was supposed to swim out and make the waterfowl fly up. As a companion dog, it has been known since the 17th century. The great Poodle has also been used as a shepherd dog and to sniff out truffles underground, and during the great wars of the last century it did good as a sanitation and ordinance dog. The three smaller sizes have come step by step through breeding on particularly small dogs. They must be proportionate and not show signs of dwarfism.

The Poodle is available in these sizes:

- Big Poodle 45-62 cm.

- Intermediate Poodle 35-45 cm.

- Dwarf Poodle 28-35 cm.

- Toy Poodle under 28 cm. 2-32 kg.

The activity level of the breed

The different size variants of the Poodles have slightly different needs where it is such that; The largest of the Poodles require a lot of employment in the form of the ability to move around freely. However, the breed's need for exercise decreases in line with size. However, one should not be mistaken that even the smallest sizes of the breed need daily walks and tasks that stimulate them mentally and fulfill their need for exercise. Common to all the Poodles is that they appreciate attention and close contact with their fellow human beings.

Fur care and hygiene

The breed's rather abundant fur has a fine, wooly structure, which feels really soft. The coat should be brushed frequently, washed regularly and clipped every one or two months. The ear canals should be cleaned of hair. Fur care is demanding, but, on the other hand, the dog does not shed and is therefore tolerated by many people with allergies. Fur care is extensive, and it's not a secret. This is something you must be prepared for if you want a dog of this breed.

Management of the breed

Subject to the size of the Poodle, the breed is incredibly intelligent, attentive and teachable. The breed is agile and fit. It is also always ready to learn a new trick. The upbringing never really creates difficulties if you start the upbringing early and use friendly corrections.
