Background knowledge of the breed

A Poodle is a wonderful and not least intelligent dog breed, which is available in different sizes: both in a very small size, a slightly smaller size, a medium size and a large size. In addition to these different sizes, they are also available in many different coat colors and shades. Historically, the Poodle was originally used as a hunting dog where it was good in water. The Poodle is really athletic, meaning that it is good for agility, dog training, tracking and even as a shepherd dog, if you wish to use the breed for that. The Poodle is known to be one of the world's best companion dogs due to its versatility and its ability to adapt to different environments. In fact, the breed is loving and good-natured in relation to the whole family, and it is never pale to play with the family's children. Another good quality that the Poodle possesses is that it is vigilant without being either barking or repulsive towards strangers and other dogs. Therefore, a Poodle is suitable for all kinds of people and it can fit in quite unproblematically in different environments. The breed is teachable and suitable for almost any type of dog activity, as mentioned above. It is believed that the Poodle may have come to France via Germany from Russia, and it is believed that the breed originated from very old Water Spaniels. It was supposed to swim out and make the waterfowl fly up. However, since the 17th century, the breed has been known as a companion dog. The great Poodle has also been used as a shepherd dog and to sniff out truffles underground. During the great wars of the last century, it did good as a sanitation and ordinance dog. The three smaller sizes have come step by step through breeding on particularly small dogs of the breed. They must be proportionate and not show signs of dwarfism.

The activity level of the breed

The different size variants of the Poodles have slightly different needs; The largest of the Poodles require a lot of employment in the form of the ability to move around freely. However, the breed's need for exercise decreases in line with size. However, you have to remember that even the smallest sizes of the breed need daily walks and tasks that stimulate them mentally and fulfill their need for exercise. Common to all the Poodles, they appreciate attention and close contact with their fellow human beings.

Fur care and hygiene

The breed's rather abundant fur has a fine, wooly structure, which feels extremely soft. The coat should be brushed frequently, washed regularly and trimmed every one or two months. The ear canals should be cleaned for hair. Fur care is demanding but, on the other hand, the dog does not shed, therefore it is tolerated by many people with allergies. The type, Toy Poodle, is a variant where the fur forms at least 20 cm long thick strings. With this type of Poodle, fur care is extensive, and that is not a secret. This is something you must be prepared for if you want this breed.

Management of the breed

Subject to the size of the Poodle, the breed is really intelligent, attentive and teachable. The breed is agile and willing to learn a new trick. You would normally not experience issues when raising this breed if you start with proper training from an early age and use a friendly approach.
