Buy Laekenois

Laekenois is a Belgian Sheepdog that was originally bred to herd sheep. Today, this breed is often kept as a family animal and can also be found in homes with children. They are used, for example, as working dogs in connection with law enforcement and search and rescue. It is an ancient breed and it is believed to have its origins in the 18th century. Laekenois is named after the city of Laeken, where the Belgian royal family lives. The breed has always been popular in Belgium, but, in recent years, has become more popular in the United States. If you are looking for a Laekenois for sale, it is important that you know the breed first. In this blog post, we will tell you what to look for when buying a Laekenois, and provide some information about its history and temperament, so you can be prepared for which dog you get.

The appearance of a Laekenois

Laekenois is a medium-sized rug-haired shepherd dog, which is available in several color variants from light beige to a more reddish-brown and almost black color. Laekenois dogs can vary greatly in color, but are most often black or fawn-colored with a little white on the chest. They may also have a small amount of black on their heads and snouts. It is normal for rough-haired breeds to form beards, but this is not the case with a Laekenois.

The coat is rough-haired and therefore requires a very special care, which you can read about below. This breed can grow up to 65 cm in height and can weigh 25-30 kg. as fully grown. It is therefore not a small dog, you get in this breed, but in return a medium-sized dog with a big mind.

It has a thick, double coat with an undercoat, which must be cared for regularly to keep it nice. This is done by brushing the dog regularly, at least 2 times a week. This breed has a double coat consisting of a soft undercoat and a hard overcoat. The hair on the head, ears and legs is shorter than the body hair, which can become quite long.

Such is a Laekenois mind

This breed is an active dog that needs lots of exercise. If you are not able to give your dog this, it is not the right breed for you. A Laekenois needs at least one long walk a day and some play time in the yard or park. It is therefore an advantage if you live in a place with lots of outdoor space where the dog can run free and use its body and mind. They can do well in families with children, but should always be supervised when near small children, as they tend to play wild. The Laekenois breed is not a good choice for first time dog owners, as they can be difficult to train. It is important that you start training your Laekenois when it is still a puppy and that you are consistent in your training. This breed is very intelligent and will quickly learn what you expect from it, if you are firm but fair in your way of training it.

Laekenois temperament is also important to get acquainted with before buying one. This breed is known for being independent and strong-willed, so it is important that you show yourself as the alpha dog in your home and take control from the start. If you let your Laekenois become the head of the household, it will probably start to take over and this can lead to problems, both at home and outside the home. So if you are looking for a Laekenois for sale, be sure to do your research and know what you are getting into! It is not an easy breed to own, but with the right training and lots of exercise, they can be amazing family animals.

The proper care and nursing of a Laekenois

Regular brushing is necessary to keep the coat on a Laekenois nice. This should be done at least twice a week with a brush specifically designed for wire-haired breeds. You can also use a metal comb to help remove any knots from the hair that often form due to the undercoat. Bathing should only be done when it is most necessary as too much bathing can remove the natural oils from the dog's skin and fur. That way, the breed is very self-caring. If your Laekenois gets dirty, you can give it a bath with shampoo made especially for dogs - never use human products on your dog. Be sure to rinse all the shampoo out of its fur and dry it thoroughly afterwards to avoid skin problems. The hair on the head, ears and legs can be cut shorter if necessary, but avoid cutting too close to the skin.

In terms of exercise and training, a Laekenois, as mentioned earlier, requires a lot of movement. If you can not offer this, or if you live in a small apartment, this is definitely not a race for you! They need long walks and good games every day to be happy. Since they are intelligent dogs, training will be easy but must start at an early age.
