Greenland Dog for sale

A Greenland Sled Dog, or Greenland Dog as it is also called in English, is a large dog breed of the sled dog type, which is believed to be several thousand years old. The ancestor of the breed probably originated in Siberia in northern Russia, where they have reportedly transported and migrated humans for several thousand years. It is a dog breed that has not changed much in the many thousands of years it has existed.

Origin and history

The Greenland Sled Dog is believed to have originated around Ladoga in northern Russia, although it is difficult to say exactly where and when the breed originated, as it has existed for thousands of years. There are also theories that it originated in Siberia sometime back in the Stone Age. It is believed that the breed came to Greenland together with the Inuits, who were an Arctic people descended from the Thule culture. The Inuit immigrated to Greenland from northern Canada, where it is believed that they brought dogs, which would later become the Greenland Dog. The breed is one of the cleanest and most isolated dog breeds in the world, which is why it has not changed significantly in the thousands of years it has existed. Some people think the breed is mixed with Malamute or Husky, but that is not the case. The Greenland Sled Dog has a very unique history, which differs markedly from all other dog breeds. It is also one of the oldest dog breeds in the world.

The Greenland Dog and its ancestors have played, and still play to this day, a huge role for the people living in Greenland, northern Canada and Siberia. The dog has been a crucial factor in the survival of these people throughout history. Without the Greenland Sled Dog, many of these peoples would probably not have existed today. To this day, the Greenland Dog is still a crucial working tool for the Greenlandic people in North Greenland. However, this is not an organized and systematic breeding program, as we know it from other dog breeds. Instead, the dogs are largely left to themselves without human intervention to ensure that only the strongest and healthiest dogs live long enough to carry on the bloodline. Today, it is estimated that there are about 25,000 Greenland Dogs in Greenland. The Greenland Dog is rarely used outside the Arctic and is not suitable as an ordinary family dog.

Appearance and characteristics

The Greenland Dog is a large dog breed, which typically weighs between 30 and 32 kg. However, examples have been seen of Greenland Dogs weighing up to 50 kg. The males are at least 60 cm tall, while the females are at least 55 cm tall. In appearance, the Greenland Sled Dog is very similar to a wolf. It has upright ears, long fur and a large tousled tail. The breed has a two-layer coat with coarse and stride cover hairs on the surface and a softer and dense undercoat. The coat enables the breed to cope with all weather conditions, including extreme cold. It is generally a dog that prefers to be outside all year round. The coat can be just about any color and combination imaginable.

Mentality and behavior

The Greenland Dog is not a dog like any other dog, and is not a distinct family dog. It is a dog that is only suitable for experienced dog owners who know the breed and its needs.

In the right environment and with the right upbringing and owner, the Greenland Sled Dog is a friendly dog towards both children and adults. However, it will never be a definite family dog. The Greenland Sled Dog is a dog that needs to use its many forces every day. It can be either in the form of training, running or by pulling. It is a dog that should preferably have a "job", as it will be unhappy, otherwise.
