Background knowledge of the breed

A Eurasier is a self-confident, calm, vigilant and attentive breed without being very noisy, which makes it incredibly uncomplicated and very docile. The breed was created as a family dog, but is not a beginner dog for most people. One should certainly not be mistaken by the breed, even if it possesses some extremely good qualities. As a family dog, the breed is strongly attached to its people, but is often a little reluctant towards strangers, without it being directly shy. However, it can easily interact with other dogs, and it will never create problems when it is in the company of other species or dogs. As a young dog, it has a fairly large need for exercise, but as an adult it is not particularly demanding, although it will never say no to a good and healthy walk with its people. You will do yourself a favor by implementing a very early socialization for the dog, and a close contact with the family dampens much of its reservation that it might otherwise have towards strangers. In 1960, the German Julius Wipfel crossed a Chow Chow and a Wolfspitz / Keeshond with the aim of creating a healthy, natural and sociable European spitz dog with the Russian Lajka as a model, but without their great desire to hunt. He called the breed Wolf-Chow. Later it was crossed with Samoyed to get a more elegant dog with a friendly nature. In 1973, the breed was internationally recognized under the name Eurasier. Since then, it has become known in many countries as an uncomplicated companion dog. The breed grows to about 52-60 cm with a weight of 18-32 kg.

The activity level of the breed

The hunting instinct of the breed is somewhat restrained, so it does not tend to roam around on its own, which is a clear plus for the breed. However, the breed possesses a bit of stubbornness and is not always willing to follow instructions, but despite this, it likes to stay close to its owners, and it is not normal for the breed to just run away on its own.

Fur care and hygiene

The coat is reasonably long with a dense undercoat. The coat protects the dog really well against all kinds of weather, like rain, snow and wind. Due to the length of the coat, it requires a lot of care during the periods when it has time to shed, especially in the spring and autumn. However, the fur requires the most care when the dog is young, and the fur care will become less demanding over time.

Management of the breed

The breed is incredibly nimble, which means that it perceives quickly and remembers everything that happens throughout its life. That is, both positive things and negative things. The breed can be a bit stubborn, and it is therefore important to have mutual respect when training the breed, because you achieve absolutely nothing by force.
