Chiranian for sale

A Chiranian, also called a Pomchi, is a deliberate cross between a Chihuahua and a Pomeranian. A Chiranian is not a recognized breed. However, the mix between the two breeds is experiencing increasing popularity in these times.

Origin and history

It is not known when one began to deliberately cross a Chihuahua and Pomeranian in order to create a Chiranian but it is believed that it is in recent times. In the beginning, the new "breed" had a hard time, but it is now becoming more and more popular. The breed is not recognized as in the UK or by the large, international dog organization FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale).

Appearance and characteristics

A Chiranian is a mix of a Chihuahua and a Pomeranian, which is why it has the appearance traits of both breeds. It is obviously a small dog, as both a Chihuahua and a Pomeranian are among some of the smallest dog breeds. Thus, it only weighs between 2.2 kg and 5.4 kg and is between 12 and 23 cm high.

The coat is typically medium-length and plush. It also comes in a wide range of different colors such as light brown, red, beige, white and black. A Chiranian is i.a. characterized by having a very round head, large round and dark eyes as well as medium-sized upright ears. However, since it is not a purebred dog, you find that there can be quite big differences in their appearances. This is partly due to the fact that there is no breed standard for the dog, because it is not a recognized dog breed.

Behavior and mentality

A Chiranian is what you would call a real lap dog. It loves to be close to its owners, preferably very close and all the time. It is very social, loyal and devoted to its owners. However, it typically binds itself to one person in particular. A Chiranian is also quite an energetic, playful and intelligent dog that wants to play and do different tasks.

However, despite its modest size, a Chiranian can also be quite territorial and protective. It will basically try to protect its owners and its territory, which may cause it to bark at strangers or sudden noises. Some Chiranians may develop anxiety if they are not adequately socialized from when they are young.

A Chiranian is a dog that needs to be trained up as early as possible, as it may otherwise develop problematic behavior. It also requires a lot of exercise and stimulation. However, it does not necessarily need a huge area to unfold, so it can easily be kept in an apartment.

Fur care and hygiene

A Chiranian's fur varies in type depending on whether the genes from the Chihuahua or the Pomeranian are the most dominant. Therefore, it can have both double-layer fur or single-layer fur. Regardless of the coat variant, the dog requires a good brushing regularly. As a general rule, you only need to brush the dog once a week if it has one layer of fur, while the variant with two-layer fur should be brushed 2-3 times a week. It is rarely necessary to trim the coat.

Health and disease

Like most other small dogs, a Chiranian can get quite old. The average life expectancy is between 12 and 18 years. There are so far no known serious hereditary or genetic diseases associated with the "breed", which, however, may be related to the fact that it remains so new and is yet to gain popularity abroad. However, when different breeds are crossed, they generally tend to be very healthy.

However, you must expect that a Chiranian can get disorders or diseases that are related to both the Chihuahua and the Pomeranian. A Chiranian should not be kept in very cold weather for too long, as they can tend to freeze and get cold quite easily.
