Background knowledge of the breed

The breed is very brave and full of life. The Bull Terrier loves fun and play, especially with other people and fellow species. The breed is very easy to handle and deal with, since it is really receptive to training, despite being known as a stubborn breed. The Bull Terrier is generally very friendly to other people and dogs, and everyone will easily like the dog. It is primarily a family dog and is really well-suited for that type of lifestyle. In general, the breed is not known for its guarding abilities, but it will always protect its family. It rarely attaches itself with a single or few people but is instead very happy and safe with strangers. With this breed, you have a hedonist and a happy dog gathered in one package and it is therefore never boring to live with the dog. It is brave, well-balanced, lively, loves fun and play, and its being is wide-ranging and embraces many opposites.

The breed is best described as follows: A strong and relatively active dog who needs a lot of close contact with the family to thrive. It needs daily activation and moderate exercise, and it will therefore thrive really well in an active family. The Bull Terrier was created as a companion/show dog and was introduced in England in 1862 (27 years after dog fighting was banned). In England, it was referred to as "The New Bull Terrier", as it differed from the already known "bull and terriers". The English Bulldog, the Dalmatian and the now extinct English White Terrier were the main ingredients. The size of the breed can vary and it can weigh up to 38 kg.

The activity level of the breed

The breed is a lovely family dog and is very good with children. However, it is important that you and the family respect and value the dog from an early age. It generally does not like to be reprimanded, and the breed loves praise and recognition when it has done something good. The breed is very self-conscious and that is why it is so vulnerable to harsh treatment, which it really does not like. It is an incredibly lovely dog that challenges and develops its family, and, at the same time, it loves everyone and is convinced that everyone loves it. It rarely attaches itself to a single or a few people, but is instead very happy and safe with strangers. For the above mentioned reason, the breed is not suitable as a dog that is mostly left to itself or as a watchdog.

Fur care and hygiene

The coat of the breed is short, close-fitting, hard and shiny. In the winter, it may have a bit of an undercoat. Like all short hair coats, it sheds a lot and the white hairs are clearly visible on everything. Daily brushing of the coat is recommended but it does not require too much time.

Management of the breed

The breed is both stubborn, persistent and not particularly teachable. It takes a great deal of love, consistency and patience to train the breed. The owner must have knowledge regarding the dog's behavior and upbringing. You must also be ready to invest plenty of time and energy in stimulating and raising the dog's in order to achieve the best possible result with the breed.
