It is believed that in the 16th century, Polish sailors traded Scottish sheep for some of their homeland's shepherd dogs. The Bearded Collie was better at driving sheeps down from the mountains than actually guarding them, and the breed was close to extinction when it became unemployed. An enthusiastic effort from 1944 restored the breed as a companion dog. The breed can grow up to 56 cm with a weight of up to 27 kg.
