Buy Airedale Terrier at Likepets.co.uk

The Airedale Terrier is the biggest of the terrier breeds and is also the calmest, and therefore has a very mild temperament. The breed is particularly known for being social, trustworthy and kind towards both family and strangers, which is why the breed is ideal for families who wish for a fairly large dog with a really good temperament. The dog is tolerant and kind among children. It is also watchful, brave and willing to protect your house and home if it is necessary.

The breed originates from the valley of Aire in middle of England, and the breed was developed for hurting otters and water rats. In both world wars, the breed served in the allied forces, and it is still used as service dogs for blind people and disabled people, and as rescue dogs during catastrophe events. The Airedale Terrier is normally red-yellow with a black sadel. It weighs around 20-23 kilograms as an adult, and grows to be around 60 centimeters, but that depends on the gender of the dog.

Activity level of the breed

The Airedale terrier is way too big to follow a fox under breath the ground, however, it still possesses many of the terriers’ hunting instincts, which the terrier is well-known for. The dog is able to make its own decisions, but is much more responsive and keeps closer contact than many smaller terriers, and therefore, it can also be easier tamed. An Airedale Terrier is an active dog that needs quite a lot of exercise and the opportunity to run freely around in order to exhaust some of its contained energy. Something else that is specific to the breed is that it thrives best with human contact, and it is happy to solve tasks, which stimulates it mentally. An Airedale Terrier is a very smart dog.

Caretaking

The hair on an Airedale Terrier is harsh and rough with a tight layer of wool underneath. The dog must be thoroughly brushed once a week and have its semi-strong bread combed daily to avoid entanglements that can be painful for the dog. It is also recommended that you trim the coat three to four times a year. On the other hand, the dog will shed that much if the above mentioned is maintained. An actual haircut will damage both color and structure, and it is therefore important only to trim the dog’s hair given the considerable difference.

Handlement of the breed

Generally speaking, the Airedale Terrier is very positive in terms of learning, and you will not have huge troubles teaching it whatever you want it to do. The breed is very quick at learning new things, and all members of the family can handle it. With an Airedale Terrier, it is about being kind, but consistent. Keep a good pace and switch up the train area, so that the dog does not get bored. Conclusively, you can say that an Airedale Terrier is the perfect family dog for the active family, who also wants a dog that can take care of itself without too much training. Typically, the breed loves humans and is great with children.
