Background knowledge of the breed

The Aidi breed originates from Morocco, where it has served as a shepherd dog and watchdog for the people of Morocco for hundreds of years. In addition to Morocco, the Aidi breed is known from Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and other North African countries, where it is also extremely popular.

Unlike European shepherd dogs that collect and direct sheep, the Aidi dog is more wary of its owner's property and belongings. It uncompromisingly attacks any intruder, both feral cats and thieves, and it is extremely uncompromising when it comes to the people that the dog loves. Such a dog is particularly effective among nomadic tribes, who are constantly traveling and more exposed in relation to not having real estate, as it is constantly on guard and is not afraid.

Aidi, also called the Atlas Dog, is a real family dog; affectionate, playful and extremely observant and vigilant. An Aidi will give his life to take care of you, your family and your belongings. Ii is considered enormously faithful and extremely consistent. The Aidi is a muscular and strong dog with a high energy level and a strong coat. It is particularly suitable for families with small children, as it is an extremely skilled watchdog.

The breed is about 52 to 62 cm and belongs to the category of a large dog. The coat of an Aidi is typically white, black brown or reddish brown. In some areas of Morocco, it is extremely common to dock the ears and even the tail of practical working dogs of this breed.

The activity level of the breed

Due to the dog's high energy level, you must prepare for the dog to be activated both with physical activity and with communication. If the dog is not activated, it starts to get bored and will start barking, becoming restless and even destructive, and therefore this is not a dog for first-time owners. This breed is especially suitable for the family who have many years of experience with dogs and especially this type of breed.

Fur care and hygiene

The breed requires occasional treatment of its fur, which does not really require much work at the end. It is a good idea to groom the dog's fur once a week, but, otherwise, the breed does not require much care.

Management of the breed

Since the breed is extremely independent and has remarkable instincts to guard and protect, it is extremely important to know which dog you are dealing with. They are always attentive and have an innate ability to assess the severity and nearness of a threat and respond with an appropriate fearless response. This breed should be trained as early as possible in order to avoid inappropriate behavior that can be potentially harmful. However, it should be pointed out that with the right training and social stimulation, one can achieve a really loyal and good family dog that will always take care of its family and the household.
